Make a wooden heddle and learn to weave with Amy Leake
Saturday June 14th 2025
Come and spend a day with Amy Leake learning to make a Scandinavian style heddle loom. Once you have crafted and decorated your heddle you’ll then learn the ancient technique of band weaving. Not only will you come away with your very own heddle and the skills to make more, but you’ll have learned the techniques to create beautiful patterned bands using your very own heddle.
At the end of the day, participants will be able to:
Layout a heddle pattern
Accurately create holes and slots in the heddle using a hand drill and fret saw
Design and plan two or more colour band patterns
Warp up the heddle
Weave a patterned band
This workshop is suitable for weaving enthusiasts, crafters, textile artists, historians, and anyone interested in learning about the art of Roman/ medieval / Scandinavian weaving and heddle-making. No prior experience is necessary; beginners and experienced weavers alike will find this workshop enriching and inspiring.
