£120.00
Sold Out

April 27th & 28th 2024

During this workshop you will make a wide-brimmed hat from river rush, an incredibly versatile, traditional British basketry material.

You will begin by making a personalised mould to ensure a perfect fit, then craft your hat over this using a check-weave technique.

You will leave with skills to continue your hat making journey, and with a practical and stylish accessory for the summer months that will last for many years to come!

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Crawford is an award-winning basket maker working primarily in wild foraged materials that include various river and wetland plants including rushes, sedges and willow. Her pieces combine sculptural design, carved wood and woven textiles with basketry to create unique, functional items, as much as possible using traditional hand crafting techniques. Her practice offers an ongoing exploration of how plant hunting, harvest and weaving can deepen our relationship with our local ecosystems, as well as with innate and ancient human capacities.  She lives and works on the edge of Dartmoor.
